  Andtotheeastcircledtherowsofcliff-bench,grayandoldandfringed,splittingatthetopinthenotchwherethelacy,slumberouswaterfall,likewhitesmoke,fellandvanished,toreappearinwidersheetoflace,onlytofallandvanishagaininthegreendepths。

  Itwasaverdantvalley,deep-setinthemountainwalls,wildandsadandlonesome。Thewaterfalldominatedthespiritoftheplace,dreamyandsleepyandtranquil;itmurmuredsweetlyononebreathofwind,andlulledwithanother,andsometimesdiedoutaltogether,onlytocomeagaininsoft,strangeroar。
