  NextmorningDuanefoundthatamoodyanddespondentspellhadfastenedonhim。Wishingtobealone,hewentoutandwalkedatrailleadingroundtheriverbluff。Hethoughtandthought。

  Afterawhilehemadeoutthatthetroublewithhimprobablywasthathecouldnotresignhimselftohisfate。Heabhorredthepossibilitychanceseemedtoholdinstoreforhim。Hecouldnotbelievetherewasnohope。Butwhattodoappearedbeyondhispowertotell。
