ForanumberofyearsactsofviolencehadbeencommittedinSpain，forwhichtheAnarchistswereheldresponsible，houndedlikewildbeasts，andthrownintoprison。LateritwasdisclosedthattheperpetratorsoftheseactswerenotAnarchists，butmembersofthepolicedepartment。ThescandalbecamesowidespreadthattheconservativeSpanishpapersdemandedtheapprehensionandpunishmentofthegang-leader，JuanRull，whowassubsequentlycondemnedtodeathandexecuted。Thesensationalevidence，broughttolightduringthetrial，forcedPoliceInspectorMomentotoexoneratecompletelytheAnarchistsfromanyconnectionwiththeactscommittedduringalongperiod。Thisresultedinthedismissalofanumberofpoliceofficials，amongthemInspectorTressols，who，inrevenge，disclosedthefactthatbehindthegangofpolicebombthrowerswereothersoffarhigherposition，whoprovidedthemwithfundsandprotectedthem。
ThisisoneofthemanystrikingexamplesofhowAnarchistconspiraciesaremanufactured。
ThattheAmericanpolicecanperjurethemselveswiththesameease，thattheyarejustasmerciless，justasbrutalandcunningastheirEuropeancolleagues，hasbeenprovenonmorethanoneoccasion。WeneedonlyrecallthetragedyoftheeleventhofNovember，1887，knownastheHaymarketRiot。
NoonewhoisatallfamiliarwiththecasecanpossiblydoubtthattheAnarchists，judiciallymurderedinChicago，diedasvictimsofalying，bloodthirstypressandofacruelpoliceconspiracy。HasnotJudgeGaryhimselfsaid:\"NotbecauseyouhavecausedtheHaymarketbomb，butbecauseyouareAnarchists，youareontrial。\"
