  Toreadadullbook;tolistentoatediousplayorprosysermonorlecture;tostareatuninterestingpicturesoruglybuildings:nothing,shortofdisease,ismoredreadfulthanthis。Theviolencedonetooursoulsbyitleavesinjuriesandproducessubtlemaladieswhichhaveneverbeenproperlystudiedbypsycho-pathologists。Yetwearesoinuredtoitinschool,wherepracticallyalltheteachersareborestryingtodotheworkofartists,andallthebooksartless,thatweacquireatrulyfrightfulpowerofenduringboredom。Weevenacquirethenotionthatfineartislasciviousanddestructivetothecharacter。Inchurch,intheHouseofCommons,atpublicmeetings,wesitsolemnlylisteningtoboresandtwaddlersbecausefromthetimewecouldwalkorspeakwehavebeensnubbed,scolded,bullied,beatenandimprisoned
