  ConradeofMontserrathadamuchmorepleasingexteriorthanthedarkandmysteriouspriest-soldierbywhomhewasaccompanied。

  Hedrainedthecuptothebottom,resignedittotheArabian,andsunkback,asifexhausted,uponthecushionswhichwerearrangedtoreceivehim。Thephysician,then,withsilentbutexpressivesigns,directedthatallshouldleavethetent,exceptinghimselfandDeVaux,whomnoremonstrancecouldinducetowithdraw。Theapartmentwasclearedaccordingly。
