  Mysticalconditionsmay,therefore,renderthesoulmoreenergeticinthelineswhichtheirinspirationfavors。Butthiscouldbereckonedanadvantageonlyincasetheinspirationwereatrueone。Iftheinspirationwereerroneous,theenergywouldbeallthemoremistakenandmisbegotten。Sowestandoncemorebeforethatproblemoftruthwhichconfrontedusattheendofthelecturesonsaintliness。Youwillrememberthatweturnedtomysticismpreciselytogetsomelightontruth。Domysticalstatesestablishthetruthofthosetheologicalaffectionsinwhichthesaintlylifehasitsroot?

  Inspiteoftheirrepudiationofarticulateself-description,mysticalstatesingeneralassertaprettydistincttheoreticdrift。Itispossibletogivetheoutcomeofthemajorityofthemintermsthatpointindefinitephilosophicaldirections。
