  Lateronheheardanotherstep,and,againglancingthroughthe,window,sawSethWingate,thevegetableandfruitpeddler,walking,fromthedoortothegate,justasMr。Bearsehaddone。Apparently,Sethhadchangedhismindalso。Jedthoughtthisratherodd,but,againhewasgrateful。Hewasthinkinghardandwasquitewilling,nottobedisturbed。

  ButthedisturbingcametenminutesafterMr。Wingate’sdeparture,andcameinthenatureofaverydistinctdisturbance。Therewasa,seriesofthunderousknocksonthefrontdoor,thatdoorwasthrown,violentlyopen,and,beforethestartledmakerofmillscoulddo,muchmorethanrisetohisfeet,thedoortotheworkroomwas,pulledopenalso。CaptainHunniwell’sbulkfilledtheopening。
