  Atthreeo’clockMissNaylortoocameout,carryingabasketandpairofscissors。Liftingherskirtstoavoidthelakesofwaterleftbythegardenhose,shestoppedinfrontofarose—bush,andbegantosnipofftheshrivelledflowers。Thelittlelady’ssilveredheadandthin,brownfacesustainedtheshowerofsunlightunprotected,andhadagentledignityintheirfreedom。

  Presently,asthescissorsflitteredinandoutoftheleaves,she,begantalkingtoherself。
