  THEKISSOFQUILLA

  HerwomenboreQuillaswooningfromthatill—fatedfield,andsickandsadsheremaineduntiloncemorewesawtheCityoftheChancas。Yetallthiswhilestrengthandsightwerereturningtohereyes,sothatintheendshecouldseeaswellasevershehaddone,forwhichI

  thankedHeaven。

  Messengershadgonebeforeus,sothatwhenwedrewnearallthepeopleoftheChancascameouttomeetus,amightymultitude,whospreadflowersbeforeusandsangsongsofjoy。OnthesameeveningI

  wassummonedbyHuarachaandfoundhimdying。ThereinthepresenceofhischiefcaptainsQuillaandItoldhimallourstory,towhichhelistened,answeringnothing。Whenitwasfinishedhesaid:

  ThreedayslaterhewasburiedwithgreatpompbeneaththeflooroftheTempleoftheMoon,notbeingpreservedandkeptabovegroundafterthefashionoftheIncas。
