TheobjectiveMindistheabsoluteIdea,butonlyexistinginposse:andasitisthusontheterritoryoffinitude,itsactualrationalityretainstheaspectofexternalapparency。Thefreewillfindsitselfimmediatelyconfrontedbydifferenceswhicharisefromthecircumstancethatfreedomisitsinwardfunctionandaim,andisinrelationtoanexternalandalreadysubsistingobjectivity,whichsplitsupintodifferentheads:viz。anthropologicaldata(i。e。privateandpersonalneeds),externalthingsofnaturewhichexistforconsciousness,andthetiesofrelationbetweenindividualwillswhichareconsciousoftheirowndiversityandparticularity。Theseaspectsconstitutetheexternalmaterialfortheembodimentofthewill。

Butthepurposiveactionofthiswillistorealiseitsconcept,Liberty,intheseexternallyobjectiveaspects,makingthelatteraworldmouldedbytheformer,whichinitisthusathomewithitself,lockedtogetherwithit:theconceptaccordinglyperfectedtotheIdea。Liberty,shapedintotheactualityofaworld,receivestheformofNecessity,thedeepersubstantialnexusofwhichisthesystemororganisationoftheprinciplesofliberty,whilstitsphenomenalnexusispowerorauthority,andthesentimentofobedienceawakenedinconsciousness。
