istheninfinitelymoreeasythanthetransitionfromthephysicalstatetotheaestheticstate（fromlifepureandblindtoform）。Thistransitionmancaneffectuatealonebyhisliberty，whilsthehasonlytoenterintopossessionofhimselfnottogiveithimself;buttoseparatetheelementsofhisnature，andnottoenlargeit。Havingattainedtotheaestheticdisposition，manwillgivetohisjudgmentsandtohisactionsauniversalvalueassoonashedesiresit。Thispassagefrombrutenaturetobeauty，iswhichanentirelynewfacultywouldawakeninhim，naturewouldrendereasier，andhiswillhasnopoweroveradispositionwhich，weknow，itselfgivesbirthtothewill。Tobringtheaestheticmantoprofoundviews，toelevatedsentiments，herequiresnothingmorethanimportantoccasions;
toobtainthesamethingfromthesensuousman，hisnaturemustatfirstbechanged。Tomakeoftheformerahero，asage，itisoftenonlynecessarytomeetwithasublimesituation，whichexercisesuponthefacultyofthewillthemoreimmediateaction;forthesecond，itmustfirstbetransplantedunderanothersky。
Oneofthemostimportanttasksofculture，then，istosubmitmantoform，eveninapurelyphysicallife，andtorenderitaestheticasfarasthedomainofthebeautifulcanbeextended，foritisaloneintheaestheticstate，andnotinthephysicalstate，thatthemoralstatecanbedeveloped。Ifineachparticularcasemanoughttopossessthepowertomakehisjudgmentandhiswillthejudgmentoftheentirespecies;ifheoughttofindineachlimitedexistencethetransitiontoaninfiniteexistence;if，lastly，heoughtfromeverydependentsituationtotakehisflighttorisetoautonomyandtoliberty，itmustbeobservedthatatnomomentisheonlyindividualandsolelyobeysthelawofnature。
