  Complimentarythankstowriterswhohavesentmetheirworks,havebetrayedmesometimesbeforethepublic,withoutmyconsenthavingbeenasked。ButIamfarfrompresumingtodirectthereadingofmyfellowcitizens,whoaregoodenoughjudgesthemselvesofwhatisworthytheirreading。Iam,also,toodesirousofquiettoplacemyselfinthewayofcontention。AgainstthisIamadmonishedbybodilydecay,whichcannotbeunaccompaniedbycorrespondingwaneofthemind。OfthisIamasyetsensible,sufficientlytobeunwillingtotrustmyselfbeforethepublic,andwhenIceasetobeso,Ihopethatmyfriendswillbetoocarefulofmetodrawmeforthandpresentme,likeaPriaminarmor,asaspectacleforpubliccompassion。Ihopeourpoliticalbarkwillridethroughallitsdangers;butIcaninfuturebebutaninertpassenger。
