Butindustrialbarbarism,bywhichImeantheinabilityofacommunitytodirectaportionofitstimetopurposesofspirituallife,afterprovidingforitsphysicalmaintenance,——thiskindofbarbarismthemodernworldhasbynomeansoutgrown。To-day,thegreatworkoflifeistolive;whiletheamountoflabourconsumedinlivinghasthroughoutthepresentcenturybeenrapidlyincreasing。NearlythewholeofthisAmericancommunitytoilsfromyouthtooldageinmerelyprocuringthemeansforsatisfyingthetransientwantsoflife。
