“Atthesolemnentranceofthebishopintothechurch，thepossessedpersonsthrewthemselvesonthegroundbeforehim，orendeavouredtothrowthemselvesuponhim，screamingfrightfully，cursing，blaspheming，sothatthepeopleatlargewerestruckwithhorror。Thepossessedfollowedthebishop，hootedhim，andthreatenedhim，uptothemiddleofthechurch。Orderwasonlyestablishedbytheinterventionofthesoldiers。Duringtheconfirmationthediseasedredoubledtheirhowlsandinfernalvociferations，andtriedtospitinthefaceofthebishopandtotearoffhispastoralraiment。Atthemomentwhentheprelategavehisbenedictionastillmoreoutrageousscenetookplace。
Theviolenceofthediseasedwascarriedtofury，andfromallpartsofthechurcharoseyellsandfearfulhowling；sofrightfulwasthedinthattearsfellfromtheeyesofmanyofthespectators，andmanystrangerswerethrownintoconsternation。”
