Nomeanshavebeenleftuntriedtoremedythedeficiency。Thegentlemanwhosenameismentionedinthepreface，andwho，fromthestatementtheremade，mightbesupposedabletofillthevacuum，hasdeclinedthetask-this，forsatisfactoryreasonsconnectedwiththegeneralinaccuracyofthedetailsaffordedhim，andhisdisbeliefintheentiretruthofthelatterportionsofthenarration。Peters，fromwhomsomeinformationmightbeexpected，isstillalive，andaresidentofIllinois，butcannotbemetwithatpresent。Hemayhereafterbefound，andwill，nodoubt，affordmaterialforaconclusionofMr。Pym’saccount。
