Ideducetheoriginofthegreatsubordinationunderthefeudalgovernment，fromthenecessarydependenceofthelowerclassesfortheirsubsistence。Theyconsumedtheproduceoftheland，asthepriceoftheirsubordination，notastherewardoftheirindustryinmakingitproduce。
Ideducemodernlibertyfromtheindependenceofthesameclasses，bytheintroductionofindustry，andcirculationofanadequateequivalentforeveryservice。
Ifthisdoctrinebeappliedinordertoresolvethefamousquestionsomuchdebated，concerningtheoriginofsupremeauthority，sofarasitisaquestionofthelawofnature，Idonotfindthedecisionsoverydifficult:Allauthorityisinproportiontodependence，andmustvaryaccordingtocircumstances。
