  Tobringabouttheaccomplishmentofaprojectsoextraordinarilybroadinvolvesengineeringandmechanicalconceptionsofahighorder,and,aswehaveseen,thesehavebeenbroughttobearonthesubjectbyEdison,togetherwithanintimateknowledgeofcompoundedmaterials。

  Themainfeaturesofthisinventionareeasilycomprehensiblewiththeaidofthefollowingdiagrammaticsectionalsketch:

  Itshouldbefirstunderstoodthattheabovesketchisinbroadoutline,withoutelaboration,merelytoillustratetheworkingprinciple;andwhiletheuprightstructureontherightisintendedtorepresentasetofmoldsinpositiontoformathree-storyhouse,withcellar,noregulardetailsofsuchabuildingsuchaswindows,doors,stairways,etc。arehereshown,astheywouldonlytendtocomplicateanexplanation。

  Itwillbenotedthattherearereallytwosetsofmolds,aninsideandanoutsideset,leavingaspacebetweenthemthroughout。Althoughnotshowninthesketch,thereisinpracticeanumberofboltspassingthroughthesetwosetsofmoldsatvariousplacestoholdthemtogetherintheirrelativepositions。Intheopenspacebetweenthemoldsthereareplacedsteelrodsforthepurposeofreinforcement;
