  Chestertonadvancedandaskedifhecouldbeofservice。Thepriestshookhishead。Thechild,hesaid,wastheonlysonofthelandlord,andmuchbelovedbyhim,andbyallthevillage。Hewasnowinthethirdweekoftyphoidfeverandtheperiodofhemorrhages。Unlesstheycouldbechecked,theboywoulddie,andthepriest,whoformanymilesofmountainandforestwasalsotheonlydoctor,hadexhaustedhisstoreofsimplemedicines。
